We are halving the carbon footprint of our own operations.
Demanding industrial manufacturing consumes energy and materials. Therefore, environmental responsibility at Stera means concrete work to reduce emissions, energy consumption, material waste, and waste.
Environmental aspects are taken into account already at the design stage. Collaboration with customers and suppliers is also important, as a significant portion of the impacts occur in the value chain.
Annual environmental projects at different plants guide our work toward lower emissions and more sustainable production.
We calculate greenhouse gas emissions annually in accordance with the GHG Protocol standard, taking into account Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.

Toward a smaller carbon footprint
At Stera, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
Stera’s greenhouse gas emissions primarily consist of energy use at plants, logistics, materials, and waste. We intend to reduce these Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from our own operations by 50% by 2030, compared to 2019.
We use renewable energy whenever possible. We continuously seek new ways to reduce energy consumption. We have switched to emission-free electricity at most of our plants, and at our Estonian plant, solar panels produce a significant portion of the energy. We also monitor and optimize water use.
Indirect emissions across the entire value chain cover everything from raw material procurement to the use of sold products and the end of their lifecycle.
Reducing Scope 3 emissions requires active collaboration with customers and suppliers. In practice, this means developing lower-emission solutions, improving the availability of emissions data, and refining supply chain information.
Precise use of materials
Stera’s production uses metals in particular, and the material utilization rate is high. Materials are used as efficiently as possible at every stage of production.
Currently, 95% of our waste is directed to recycling or reuse. We monitor and improve recycling every year.
Environmental impacts are taken into account in material selection together with customers. We strive to reduce the use of chemicals and replace them with more environmentally friendly alternatives whenever possible.
Emissions data supports customers’ sustainability work
Stera calculates its greenhouse gas emissions every year in accordance with the GHG Protocol. The calculation takes into account Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions. This allows us to see where emissions originate and where they can be reduced. We have tracked our greenhouse gas emissions since 2016 and continuously develop our calculation methods.
An ESG AI database has been built from product material and environmental data, allowing us to provide our customers with product-specific material data.
